Measuring Income Inequalities: A Comparative Analysis

Abstract

Income inequality is a social problem that affects countries both economically and individually. Several procedures have been undertaken to address this distributive justice problem such as income tax and redistribution. This redistributive program finds in the theory of the decision in the risk the technical means to solve it. Several indices of inequality constructed are based on certain decision models that reflect the decision maker's distributive opinion. The Gini index is the indicator of inequality most widely used in studies, especially comparative ones. We carried out, as part of a first research, a comparative analysis, temporal and spatial but also among a certain number of countries, income inequalities for Tunisia by adopting the standard Gini index and the indicator of Theil .
