Electronic money transaction as a factor of financial inclusion in CEMAC zone during COVID-19

Purpose : describe the evolution of e-money transactions by highlighting the reasons for transactions in order to deduce the effects on financial inclusion in a context of COVID 19.
Method : for this study, we used the figures contained in the recent reports of the Bank of Central African States on CEMAC electronic money payment services for the period 2011 to 2020, and the descriptive analyses were carried out.
Results : The description of the figures shows a more pronounced upward trend from 2019 onwards in terms of distribution points, the number and value of electronic money transactions, particularly in countries such as Cameroon, Gabon and Congo. These results reflect the challenges of accessing traditional financial services ; challenges that appear to be addressed by e-money services (IMF, 2020a).
Originality :
This study reinforces the idea that e-money transactions are factors of financial inclusion in the CEMAC sub-region and the most predominant motive being the payment of electricity bills, which has considerably reduced the queues observed in the past in front of the electricity company's cash registers and the COVID-19 pandemic has been a factor in accelerating the digital transformation.
